The GR NC 1 begins at Prony, an old mining village located on the southern tip of the mainland. 

 

It roams through the red earth of the Great South, crosses into the heart of the Blue River Provincial Park and continues onwards to the Dumbéa Dam. In the future, it will reach the border of the Southern Province and then, later, will travel right up to the mainland's most northerly point.

 

The GR1 NC is currently divided into seven sections, each of which is equipped with refuges and safe shelters.

 

First section: Prony - refuge des Néocallitrpsis (4h - 14 km)

Second section: Refuge des Néocallitropsis - Netcha (3h30 - 10,8 km)

Third section: Netcha - Ouénarou (entrance to the Blue River Park) (5h - 19,5 km)

Fourth section: Refuge de Ouénarou - refuge des Muletiers ( 5h30 - 14,6 km)

Fifth section: Refuge des Muletiers - refuge des Tristaniopsis (5h30 - 17,8 km)

Sixth section: Refuge des Tristaniopsis - refuge de la mine Soleil (7h30 - 15,3 km)

Seventh section: Refuge de la mine Soleil - Dumbéa Dam (4h - 9,7 km)

 

Hikes of different durations can be taken (1, 2 or 3 days) and most departure points are easily accessible.
